An artist, a colleague, a mentor and friend has died. I don't have anything else to say right now other than how sad I am, and what a loss it is to the practice of making little things that insulate us from the unbearable harshness all around, little things we sometimes call art.

His emails always closed with, "getting away with it since 1965." Perhaps that is a fitting epitaph:
Patrick W. Welch, Getting Away With It 1965 - 2008.

thank you for this lovely and poignant note about our beloved PWW.
A very interesting artist. Good post. Thanks.
Patrick W. Welch has had the biggest influence on my life. To know him as both as one of his student, a fellow artist and as a friend has been a privilege. I'm going to miss him.
RIP. The piece pictured is actually in my personal collection, among 5 others from his Micromental series.
Patrick was a cool guy, I remember when I was around 10 years old, I showed him a picture I drew and he encouraged me to keep it up. I didn't, but that still stuck with me to this day.
We miss you Mr. Welch!
